Earth Day Sculpture Exhibit

From April 24 to 28, 2018, Union Station’s Main Hall will have an Earth Day sculpture exhibit. Sculptor George Sabra’s pieces Exhausted Tree and Plastic Storm will be on display. Exhausted Tree, made of recycled automobile parts, is an 11-foot-tall sculpture of a tree. It tells the story about the effects of air pollution on the environment. A 14-foot-high sculpture, made from recycled bottles, cups, and jars, Plastic Storm represents the amount of plastic waste humans generate on a daily basis.

Seeing limitless possibilities in materials that others would abandon or discard, Mr. Sabra artistically recycles. His media is descended from two worlds, both natural and man-made. As a result of this, Mr. Sabra finds himself drawn to all sorts of discarded plastic and metal material, in combination with earthly offerings of driftwood, roots, granite, and marble. In awe of nature, his use of man-made materials is primarily as a complement or extension of the natural resources he chooses. He explains his perspective, saying, “I want to show how man’s accomplishments can and should flow in harmony with the natural world.”
