Union Station Redevelopment Corporation Announces Plans to Engage a Public-Private Partnership Advisor to Advance the Washington Union Station Expansion Project

Through support of DOT’s $24 million federal grant, USRC will retain an advisor to help develop the process for engaging a master developer of the station’s future expansion

September 9, 2026 — WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC), steward of the iconic Washington Union Station, today announced that it will engage a Public-Private Partnership (P3) Advisor to help develop a process for engaging a development partner to implement the future Station Expansion Project (SEP) at Washington Union Station. The procurement of a P3 Advisor is funded by the $24 million grant recently announced by the Department of Transportation (DOT).

“This will be one of the most significant construction projects in the nation’s capital. The speed at which we’re moving to make progress on the Washington Union Station redevelopment is proof of our commitment to improve this national gateway for the millions using it annually,” said Steven Bradbury, Deputy Secretary of Transportation.

“We appreciate the U.S. Department of Transportation’s continued partnership and investment in Washington Union Station, and for recognizing its redevelopment as a national priority,” said Doug Carr, President & CEO of Union Station Redevelopment Corporation.  “This $24 million grant enables us to establish a process to identify and structure the strongest development partnership for this once-in-a generation Station Expansion Project. This is an exciting opportunity to reimagine the project, align it with today’s needs and create a clear, fundable path forward for the future of Union Station.”

USRC will begin the P3 Advisor procurement this fall, alongside the work it will implement to develop a new scope for the SEP.  USRC intends to execute the P3 agreement in 2027. Additional information on the P3 Advisor procurement can be found HERE. The deadline for all submissions is October 7, 2026.
