Union Station Redevelopment Corporation Launches Procurement for Program Management Team to Advance Washington Union Station Improvements

September 9, 2026 — WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC), the non-profit organization responsible for modernizing Washington Union Station while preserving its history, launched a formal procurement for a Program Management/Construction Management (PM/CM) team to help deliver critical improvements at the historic transportation hub.

The selected PM/CM team will work under USRC and its board of directors to manage a comprehensive program of capital improvement projects supported by a $277 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The work will address capital maintenance needs at the station that have accumulated over the past 40 years and support a comprehensive modernization of the historic transportation hub. The PM/CM team will also help deliver improvements to the passenger concourse and support USRC and DOT in evaluating concepts and proposals from potential public-private partnership developers.

“This procurement marks an important step toward putting this historic federal investment to work at Washington Union Station,” said Doug Carr, President and CEO of USRC. “We appreciate Secretary Duffy and the Department of Transportation’s continued focus on the station and look forward to selecting a team that will help us efficiently deliver these critical improvements.”

The solicitation is now available here, with responses due September 21, 2026. Additional USRC procurement information can be found here.

The selected team will help USRC coordinate and execute improvements across the station’s historic building and infrastructure, including structural, mechanical, technology, security and accessibility upgrades. Together, these projects will enhance safety and security, improve the passenger experience and restore and beautify one of the nation’s most important transportation hubs.

The work will also support USRC’s efforts to strengthen Washington Union Station as a vibrant mixed-use destination by maximizing revenue opportunities across its retail, dining, office and special events offerings. Revenue generated through these commercial assets can be reinvested in the station’s continued operation and improvement.

The $277 million grant is part of the $466 million federal investment announced by DOT in May to support immediate improvements at Washington Union Station.
