USRC was awarded a grant from the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to help fund improvements to the areas connecting pedestrians from H Street and the streetcar terminus through the parking garage leading into Union Station. Improvements were completed in early 2016 and include a dedicated pedestrian corridor with enhanced signage, lighting and handrails. In addition, external downlighting, new wayfinding signage, and elegant stainless steel handrailing with sliding gates that control access to the passenger queues to the adjacent intercity buses was also installed.
