Union Station in Videos…New and Old

Faces of Travel is a video from April 18, 2017, emceed by Samantha Brown, Travel Expert and Television Host. The segment was prepared for National Travel and Tourism Week (May 7-13, 2017), which celebrates the travel industry and travelers. The video features the exterior and Main Hall of Union Station, the National Cherry Blossom Festival kiosk that was previously in the Main Hall, and Big Bus Tours. It also highlights Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street and the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. In the clip, Ms. Brown reflects on how travel benefits the economy, businesses, our communities, and our personal lives.

The Passenger Train, an instructional sound film, shows what it was like to travel to and from Union Station in 1940. “Up to this large railroad station come buses, taxis, and private cars, carrying people who are going to travel by passenger train.” You can catch glimpses of passenger drop-off on the south side of the station, the old waiting room, the old ticket windows, the old entry gates to train platforms, and an old diesel electric locomotive just as they were in 1940.

Happy viewing!
