Tour Buses Still Welcome at Union Station
Washington, DC - Union Station became Megabus’ new home on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. In addition to Megabus, the Union Station parking garage now accommodates Bolt Bus, Washington Deluxe, DC2NY and tour bus parking. In the spring USRC will add Greyhound service and at the same time will open a permanent lot for tour buses nearby that will provide bus drivers with parking and new amenities for years to come. When those changes take effect, tour buses will continue to drop off and pick up passengers on the Union Station Bus Deck. “ Over the past few years, Union Station has added EV car charging stations in the parking garage, and Bike share to its existing cadre of transportation options that include AMTRAK, VRE and MARC trains, Public, Metro/Circulator, Tour Buses shopping, restaurants, a Subway system, and taxis making it DC’s largest option for transportation.

Union Station Parking Garage Bus Deck/Ramp Repairs
USRC will solicit bids for repair of the post-tensioned garage bus deck and west ramp.  Work will include partial-depth/full-depth slab repairs and application of a traffic deck coating membrane.  Contractor will need to coordinate work with Amtrak, WMATA and garage operator with the goal to minimize traffic impacts and keep garage operating as normal.  Estimated construction duration is 5-7 months.

Union Station Parking Garage Escalator Modernization
USRC will solicit bids for replacement of the ten (10) garage escalators.  Contractor will need to focus on sequence of replacement of equipment ensuring that garage patrons are not inconvenienced and can still access all levels of the garage.  Coordination with the garage operator will be critical.

Columbus Plaza Reconfiguration Project
USRC is actively working with National Park Service (NPS),  and the DC Department of Transportation on the Columbus Plaza/Circle reconfiguration project.   The improvements to the Columbus Plaza/Circle area, located directly in front of Union Station, will include installation of security bollards along the perimeter of the Union Station facility, removal of the recirculation road and addition of more green space, and relocation of certain roads and walkways.   The goals are to better connect pedestrians with the surrounding Capitol Hill area, while improving pedestrian/vehicular conflicts.   DDOT will be in charge of managing the project. Anticipated construction start date is Fall/Winter 2010/11.
