About Us

Mission statement: “To preserve Union Station’s history and new vitality as an inter-modal transportation center that supports commerce and social interaction”
Initially created in 1982, the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation is a privately-owned nonprofit organization created to oversee restoration of Union Station, ensure its return to a functioning rail station and create a retail/entertainment destination. Funding for the initial renovation came from the following sources:

  • Amtrak, $70 million
  • The District of Columbia, $40 million
  • The private developer, $40 million

Today, the USRC protects the federal government’s interests and preserves the history enshrined within Union Station. Specific examples include the following:

  • Managing the station development lease
  • Managing the parking garage operator’s contract
  • Insuring proper maintenance of the unique historical features of Union Station
  • Overseeing and managing all capital improvements for the garage
  • Overseeing the Capital Maintenance Reserve Fund for major station improvements
